1. Donell Jones featuring Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes “U Know What’s Up”
This is the fifth and, obviously, final and highest entry from MY January 2009 TOP 10: Left Eye Videos countdown and of all of Year 1. First, at Number 25 was TLC’s hugest hit, “Waterfalls.” Then, at Number 21 was their second hugest hit, “No Scrubs.” Both of these are from TLC’s junior release, FanMail. Third was “What About Your Friends” at Number 15 , one of the string of hits from their debut release, Ooooooh… On The TLC Tip. Fourth, coming in at Number 5, was the INTRODUCTION post to the entire countdown.
Well, there you have it. Not sure what else to say other than Left Eye Forever! I love TLC and I love Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Seems like the popolio visitors agree with me by crowning this with the Year 1 Number 1 spot. This was based on the total hits each post received and this particular post received the most by far.
I will say TLC is not like other girl groups where girls can be replaced and have (not saying any names). Perhaps, because there were only 3 members and they each had such distinct personalities. I think other TLC fans will agree with me that though you may have your favorite (mine changed through the years), you will still support the other girls’ projects and endeavors. It’s like extended family. You may have your fave cousin, but it doesn’t mean your other cousins are chopped liver.
The talent and the chemistry were undeniable. I don’t gravitate to artists that are necessarily the best singers. You can be the best singer in the world, but be boring and have no personality. I’m attracted to artists that I find interesting. It’s about the whole package.
Great songs to start with. Everything else has to back the music up. It always goes back to the music. That said, you then add a little dance (I love to dance, so I like performers who dance), a little stage presence, a lot of personality, a lot of attitude, and a great look (a standout trend-setting sense of style is a must).
Lastly, the sound and the look have to change and evolve through time. Most of all, they should have a uniqueness and sincerity that sets them apart from whoever else is out there. TLC had all of that and then some. In droves. ‘Nuff said.
I gave this video the Number 3 spot on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Read the original post here — MY TOP 1o: Left Eye Videos — 3. Donell Jones featuring Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes “U Know What’s Up” and watch the video below.

5. Left Eye INTRO
This is the fourth entry from MY January 2009 TOP 10: Left Eye Videos countdown. Coming in at Number 5 is the INTRODUCTION post to the entire countdown.
TLC being my fave group of all-time, I really wanted to celebrate Left Eye’s first posthumous release, Eye Legacy, back in January 2009. In addition to the podcast interview with her brother, Ronald Lopes, regarding the project that just took the Number 6 spot, I did this countdown counting down to the release date. I alternated TLC videos with those that featured Left Eye as a guest on other artists’ songs.
Something fun I did with the countdown was to try to find a unique Left Eye photo to feature with each post that weren’t familiar images of her. Or at least ones that I hadn’t seen before. I googled high and low for those never-before-seen-shots. Go to countdown to check out a nice collection of cool Left Eye pics!

6. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Eye Legacy popolio podcast [with Ron Lopes]
This is the only popolio podcast to make the countdown. It is also the first one I ever did for THE REAL popolio. TLC is my favorite group of all-time. I’ve said that many a times and it will never change.
When I started this blog, I had reached out to Left Eye’s sister, Reigndrop Lopes, who is an artist in her own right, to try to feature and/or interview her. I never got a response.
One I found out the family was putting out the first posthumous Left Eye release through independent label in Boston (there’s that Boston connection again), I reached out through the official site that was created for that project, which was called Eye Legacy. To my surprise, they responded to my email and I was able to set something up with her brother, Ronald Lopes.
I was so excited and probably more nervous than anything. I actually spoke to him on my birthday in December 2008, but the interview was not posted until January 2009 closer to the release date of Eye Legacy.
It will go down as one of my highlights of doing this blog. It’s a birthday I will never forget. Ron was very down-to-earth, which I appreciated. At one point, he even says he’s “regular peeps,” which is classic and echoes what is said about Left Eye and Chilli on one of the interludes on FanMail.
I’ve tried to get interviews with T-Boz and Chilli since, but have not been successful in getting any responses. For me, Ron stands in Lisa’s place, so the other two are left. If I continue to interview artists in some form or fashion, T-Boz and Chilli will always be two dream “gets.”
TLC Forever. Left Eye Forever. ‘Nuff said!

25. TLC “Waterfalls”
Anybody who knows me knows that TLC is my favorite group of all-time. That will never change. In 2008, it came to my attention that Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ family was releasing her first posthumous release, Eye Legacy, in January of 2009. I took the opportunity to try to get an interview.
I was able to land one with her brother, Ron Lopes. We actually talked on my birthday in 2008. It was on my first phone interviews and I couldn’t have wished for anything other than if Left Eye were still alive and I got to speak to her. To me, he took her place, so I still have hopes of interviewing T-Boz and Chilli one day. Though we spoke in December, the interview posted closer to the release date in January.
In conjunction with the popolio podcast (listen to my chat with Ron here), I counted down MY TOP 10: Left Eye Videos to the Eye Legacy release date starting on Friday, January 16, 2009. I alternated TLC videos with videos that featured Left Eye as a soloist with other artists. On Sunday, January 25, 2009, I gave this 1990s classic the Number 2 spot.

Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes (May 27, 1971 — April 25, 2002).
Those who know me know that Grammy Winners TLC are my favorite group of all-time. They also know that when Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes died I took it very hard.
When I first kicked off this blog about three years ago, I sought and landed a popolio podcast interview with Left Eye’s brother, Ron Lopes. The family was releasing her first posthumous release, Eye Legacy, and that’s what we talked about.
I also did a MY TOP 10: Left Eye Videos countdown, reviewed the first single, “Let’s Just Do It,” featuring TLC (T-Boz and Chilli), and a few other things.
So, though I have no new Left Eye content, I’d like to re-present that content in memory of Ms. Lopes.
Remember, these posts are at our first location on the web, wordpress.popolio.com. Now, I’m at realpopolio.wordpress.com. I know it can get confusing, but I had to remember Left Eye. Especially since I didn’t do anything official last year.
ALSO! Glee will be featuring a TLC song on TOMORROW’S all-new episode. It will be “Unpretty” mashed up with “I Feel Pretty” from West Side Story.
I’ve had a campaign going on Facebook for Glee to feature an all-TLC episode, that, candidly speaking, hasn’t really gained much traction. I also proposed an all-girl group episode if a TLC one was more than what they were willing to do. Now, Lady Gaga has gotten two as this is the Born This Way episode. And, TLC just the one song, but it’s a start. Hopefully, more TLC to come on Glee. Join the Facebook group, In Support of Glee Making a TLC Episode!
