Creator/Editor

Freddie Rodriguez aka freddie beat, music and entertainment blogger & writer, was the creator & editor of this Austin, Texas-based music blogazine, THE REAL popolio, which ran from September 15, 2008 through November 27, 2011.  In addition to overseeing things here, he has contributed pieces to Popular Hispanics and therepubliq, both also based in Austin.  For a time, he tried his hand at a weekly indie music column that he created for Zubterrain, the former e-zine of NYC-based Zonisphere Media Group, called Urb’l (Urban Cool) Remedy.

With a Masters in Advertising and Bachelors in Radio-Television-Film from the University of Texas at Austin, he loves entertainment and pop culture.  His Panamanian heritage and Northeast El Paso, Texas-upbringing speak to his personal mantra, individuality trumps conformity every time.  As a Creative Dabbler, he’s managed a hip hop dance crew, founded a slam poetry organization, and spearheaded arts programming for an academic gender and sexuality center.  He’s left-handed and has always wanted to be super hero.
