26. Michael Portman [Birds Barbershop] 20Q Part 1
My approach has always been if there is a musical angle I can take, then I can include it.  This is a music blog, after all.  Birds Barbershop  co-creator and co-owner, Michael Portman, was not only my first non-musical artist interview, but my first 2-part 20 question interview as well.  This interview was also tied to my very first giveaway.

At the time, they were opening 2 new locations on 6th Street and in SoCo.  I even got to make an EXCLUSIVE announcement in Part 2 of the interview.

There was a musical connection, though.  Birds had already built a reputation for hosting DJs and shows in their shops.  The announcement was musical in nature as well.  In celebration of the 6th Street location, Birds kicked off the Birds East (Summer) Concert Series.

The shows were at Mohawk, Stubb’s, and Red7  and featured artists like Black Moth Super Rainbow, Santigold, St. Vincent, and 2 Live Crew, to name a little more than a few.

It was a grande and exciting time for me at the blog.  It was really only the beginning.  I was experiencing a lot of firsts and experimenting with new ideas.

This particular interview gave me two fun creative contests for haircut giveaways (that Michael and Birds were very open to and collaborative with and for that I’m thankful to them) to play with, an EXCLUSIVE you-hear-it-here-first announcement to make, and a fun post featuring the winners’ pictures.  It definitely was one of the cooler interviews I got to do because it wasn’t run of the mill.
